Mark Southgate is Chief Executive of the charity MOBIE – Ministry of Building Innovation and Education. MOBIE exists to engage and educate young people about home and the built environment. We inspire the next generation to join the housebuilding industry to help raise design standards, build better quality homes and introduce innovation through a different way of thinking and doing. MOBIE reaches young people from primary school to university through our design challenges and design workshops, and we help ensure that they have the skills needed to future proof the industry through our education resources, materials and courses. Mark is responsible for overseeing all MOBIE’s activities to inspire a new generation to take up careers in and reshape home building, the built environment and construction. Mark is a chartered town planner with nearly 40 years’ experience in planning and environmental roles in local government, non-governmental organisations and central government agencies. He is a member of the General Assembly of the Royal Town Planning Institute and a Director of the Offsite Alliance – an industry representative group promoting the use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) in housing.
